As winter break approaches, the window to abundant options for food and drink on campus is closing. After the fall quarter ends Friday (Dec. 13), many campus services will be reduced until the first day of winter instruction on Jan. 6.
Food and coffee
Friday is the last day open of 2024 for most food and coffee locations on campus, including most of the Coffee House, all dining commons and Dining Services eateries, and all Peet’s locations. The sole exception is Swirlz in the Coffee House, which will be open 8 a.m.-2 p.m. next week (Dec. 16-20).
Crepe Bistro in the Silo is already closed for winter break, and several of the remaining locations operated by Dining Services will close earlier than usual on Friday.
The Segundo Dining Commons will open for dinner (5-8 p.m.) on Jan. 4 and from 9 a.m.-8 p.m. on Jan. 5. All other campus eateries and coffee locations will reopen the following day, Jan. 6.
Library
The main building of Shields Library will be closed from Dec. 14 through Jan. 1, and also on Saturday, Jan. 4. The library will be open Jan. 2 and Jan. 3, and reopens for Winter Quarter starting Sunday, Jan. 5. The 24-Hour Study Room will remain open throughout the break.
Supply Chain Management (Repro Graphics, Mail Services, more)
Several units operated by Supply Chain Management will suspend service from Dec. 24-Jan. 1, with some also observing reduced hours on Dec. 23.
Transportation Services
The Transportation Services office will be partially closed Dec. 16-Jan. 3, with full closures on the university holidays of Dec. 24-25, 31, and Jan. 1. During partial closure, the office will not be open for walk-in or scheduled appointments and the Mobility Assistance Shuttle will not be in service. Staff will be monitoring email and have limited availability to respond for motorist assistance and bike program services as needed.

Student Health and Counseling Services
All locations of will be closed from Dec. 21-Jan. 5, reopening Monday, Jan. 6.

Unitrans
This week, Unitrans is operating on its fare-free finals week schedule, which adds more late-night trips.
Next week, Unitrans will operate on a break schedule: Only the B, E, F, G, K, L-MU, M, O, P, Q, and U lines will run, and all service will be to and from the Memorial Union Terminal.
Unitrans will not operate Dec. 24-25. It will operate on a weekend schedule Dec. 26-30, and will not operate Dec. 31-Jan. 1.
From Jan. 2-5, it will again operate on a weekend schedule, with extra early-morning service on Jan. 2 and 3.
Unitrans will resume its regular, academic year schedule starting Monday, Jan. 6.
Memorial Union
The will close Dec. 21-Jan. 1, and will operate on a reduced schedule Jan. 2 and 3. It will resume regular weekend hours the following two days, reopening for regular hours starting Monday, Jan. 6.
The will be open every day through Dec. 20. Starting the next day, it will be closed through Jan. 5, reopening Jan. 6.
Holiday heat shutdown
Facilities Management’s Energy and Engineering team routinely turns off heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems over holidays and long weekends to save energy. This year’s schedule corresponds with the university holidays: Dec. 24-25 and Dec. 31-Jan. 1.
So, if you’re coming to your office Dec. 23, 26, 27, 30, Jan. 2 and 3, rest assured the heat will be on.
The long-weekend shutdowns apply only to noncritical spaces; laboratories and animal spaces are not affected. Also, spaces that are reserved for events through Conference and Event Services are not affected.
