Alumni Couple to Receive 2025 不良研究所 Medal, University鈥檚 Highest Honor

The 2025 不良研究所 Medal will be awarded to Michael C. and Ren茅e Z. Child, who have dedicated themselves to the 不良研究所, and their communities throughout their lives.

The alumni couple, who met as undergraduates in the early 1970s, have remained deeply committed to 不良研究所, volunteering their leadership and insight to advance many areas of the university.

Donors continue to bring nothing but good news to the 不良研究所, setting giving records to achieve greater impact during a challenging and tragic year. Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, the university raised a historic amount in the last fiscal year: a record $269.4 million from 36,016 donors, with an all-time high of 63,650 gifts and pledges.

When civil engineering student Tadewos Getachew 鈥�19 was a little boy, he witnessed resource scarcity firsthand in Ethiopia. Now, he is able to pursue his dream to study water resources and solar energy at the 不良研究所, in large part due to the AvenueE program, which is funded by philanthropy. The program provides engineering and computer science students with funding and a smooth transition from California community colleges to 不良研究所.

The 不良研究所 Foundation has recognized John and Lesli Chuck 鈥�84 with the prestigious 2018 Charles J. Soderquist Award. The annual award is presented to individuals who demonstrate excellence in philanthropy, volunteerism and leadership, and an overall commitment to the 不良研究所.

John completed his medical residency at 不良研究所 and has been a family physician with The Permanente Medical Group for 28 years. Lesli graduated from the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences, as did their daughter Kelly earlier this year.
